Terry Fox legacy continues with national runs and new documentary

The 46th annual Terry Fox Run took place across approximately 650 communities in Canada on September 20, 2026, continuing the legacy of the Marathon of Hope. The Terry Fox Foundation recently reached a milestone, having surpassed $1 billion raised for cancer research.

In conjunction with the national runs, the documentary ‘Run Terry Run’, directed by Sean Menard, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film utilizes previously unreleased archival footage and home videos to provide an intimate look at Terry Fox’s 1980 journey. The screening was attended by his brother, Darrell Fox, and various Canadian Olympians.

Local events reported significant participation and fundraising success. In Victoria, the run surpassed its $100,000 goal, raising nearly $110,000. In Campbell River, the community has raised over $250,000 for cancer research since the event's inception. Other regional runs were held in Kelowna, South Surrey, White Rock, and the Waterloo region.
