Terry Harryman, championship-winning WRC co-driver, dies at 87

Renowned World Rally Championship (WRC) co-driver Terry Harryman has passed away at the age of 87. The Northern Irishman, who was based in Bangor, died peacefully while receiving care for Parkinson’s Disease.

Over a career spanning five decades, Harryman achieved six WRC victories and nine podium finishes. He is most famously remembered for his highly successful partnership with driver Ari Vatanen, with whom he secured multiple wins, including the 1984 Safari Rally and a series of victories in 1984 and 1985 across events such as the 1000 Lakes Rally and Monte Carlo.

Earlier in his career, Harryman found success in Ireland, winning the Circuit of Ireland three times, notably alongside Paddy Hopkirk in an Austin Mini Cooper S. He also navigated for other prominent drivers including Malcolm Wilson, Tony Pond, and Michele Mouton.
