Terry Rozier requests separate trial in NBA gambling case
Former NBA player Terry Rozier and his longtime friend Deniro Laster have requested separate trials in connection to an alleged illegal gambling scheme. Prosecutors allege that during a March 2023 game between the Charlotte Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans, Rozier and Laster conspired to use non-public information regarding a leg injury to facilitate bets. It is alleged that Laster sold this information for $100,000.
Rozier’s legal team argues that the player was genuinely injured and had no knowledge of any gambling arrangements. The defense stated that Rozier’s attorney “will spend as much effort prosecuting Mr. Laster in this trial as the government.” Both men face conspiracy charges for wire fraud and money laundering.
Separately, Rozier has been active on social media, mocking the Miami Heat following a recent loss and addressing criticism regarding his involvement in the scandal. Rozier remains out of the NBA as the legal proceedings continue.
