Tesco and Globus expand rapid grocery delivery services in Czech Republic
Retailers in the Czech Republic are expanding their rapid delivery services to compete with specialized online supermarkets. Tesco has launched a new service called ‘Tesco Hned’ in collaboration with the Wolt platform. This service aims to deliver small grocery orders, including food, beverages, cosmetics, and pet supplies, to customers in Prague in as little as 40 minutes. The pilot program began in six stores and is expected to expand to 28 locations in Prague by early September. Unlike traditional online shopping, orders are fulfilled directly from local stores rather than central warehouses.
Other major retailers are also adjusting their delivery strategies. Globus has expanded its delivery services to the Prague periphery and the Ostrava region through a partnership with DODO, with plans to launch in Olomouc this autumn. Meanwhile, some traditional chains are moving away from operating their own e-shops; Albert has already discontinued its proprietary online store, and Billa plans to do the same by January 31. These retailers will instead rely on external platforms like Wolt and Foodora to handle their home deliveries.
