Tesco and Morrisons expand AI-driven store automation in the UK

Tesco has completed the initial phase of a 600‑store rollout of autonomous cleaning robots developed with ICE. The deployment, the largest of its kind in the UK convenience sector, uses co‑bots that operate alongside store staff, freeing employees to focus on customer service and providing consistent daily cleaning backed by data tracking.

Morrisons has introduced Instacart’s AI‑powered Caper smart trolleys at its Preston supermarket, marking the first UK partnership for the technology. The trolleys automatically recognise items, weigh fresh produce, display a running basket total and integrate with the Morrisons More Card for loyalty savings, aiming to make in‑store shopping more efficient and enjoyable.
