Tesco opens free grocery pop‑up at London Southend Airport

Tesco rolled out a one‑day “Back From Holiday Shop” pop‑up on 29 July in the baggage‑reclaim hall of London Southend Airport. Travellers arriving on selected flights between midday and 5 p.m. could collect complimentary bags containing groceries and household essentials chosen to restock empty fridges.

The offering, part of Tesco’s wider “Need Anything From Tesco?” campaign, was developed with Clubcard partner easyJetholidays and the airport. Research for the campaign found that a quarter of UK consumers view returning to an empty fridge as a major frustration. The bags include Tesco Finest English Breakfast tea, two pints of semi‑skimmed milk, custard‑cream biscuits, wholemeal loaf, baked beans, cheddar, carrots, cucumber, strawberries and other items such as Yorkshire pudding batter, aloe‑vera lotion and concentrated laundry detergent.

Tesco says the initiative aims to provide the comforts travellers miss most after a holiday, with 57 % of respondents craving tea, 56 % milk and 31 % the traditional Sunday roast.
