Tesla adds 50W actively cooled wireless chargers to Model 3 and Model Y
Tesla is rolling out upgraded 50‑watt wireless charging pads with built‑in active cooling for its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. The new assembly, first seen on the six‑seat Model Y L built for the Chinese market, uses dedicated fans to dissipate heat and prevent the thermal throttling that limited the previous 15‑watt pads.
The upgrade will be fitted to regular Model Y and Model 3 cars beginning in the third quarter of 2026, but it does not include the Qi2 magnetic alignment standard adopted by other manufacturers. Full 50‑watt power is currently supported only by a few smartphones such as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Honor Magic 6 Pro; most users can expect an effective increase to around 25 watts. The system cannot be retrofitted to the Cybertruck without a redesign of its centre‑console architecture.
