Tesla and BYD issue major vehicle recalls in China

Tesla is conducting a massive recall of approximately 2.7 million Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China. According to the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), the recall addresses issues with monitoring systems used during driver assistance operations. Additionally, a separate campaign targets vehicles with internal door handles that are difficult to identify and use during emergencies because their color matches the door trim.

Other Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, including Xiaomi, XPeng, Geely, Chery, and Leapmotor, have also initiated recalls for similar door handle safety concerns.

Separately, BYD has announced a recall of over 180,000 Qin and Tang models manufactured between 2014 and 2022 in the Chinese market. The issue involves a brake pedal component that may crack or detach, potentially causing brake lights to remain illuminated constantly and confusing other drivers. This specific BYD recall is limited to China and does not affect international markets.
