Tesla and SpaceX merger could be announced before December, Barclays analysts suggest
Analysts at Barclays suggest that a merger between Elon Musk’s Tesla and SpaceX could be announced as early as before December 2026. The potential announcement may coincide with Tesla’s annual general meeting, which is legally required to be held no later than December 6.
According to Barclays, the primary strategic value of such a combination would lie in the vertical integration of the two companies’ artificial intelligence technologies. This would pair Tesla’s physical AI applications, such as the Optimus humanoid robot and Cybercab, with SpaceX’s virtual AI assets. The most likely deal structure is an all-stock transaction in which SpaceX acquires Tesla.
Existing collaboration between the firms includes the Terafab semiconductor project, a joint venture expected to invest approximately $16.8 billion in a facility in Grimes, Texas. This project aims to produce chips for Tesla’s autonomous vehicles and SpaceX’s planned space-based data centers.
Despite the growing consensus among analysts, significant hurdles remain. These include regulatory approvals, particularly in China, and governance concerns regarding shareholder rights and voting control.
