Tesla converts Fremont Model S/X plant to Optimus robot factory

Tesla has dismantled the production line for its Model S and Model X at the Fremont, California plant, completing the teardown in 46 days. The facility, which had built the flagship sedans since 2012, will now be reconfigured to assemble the company’s Optimus humanoid robot.

Elon Musk said the new robot‑assembly line is intended to reach a capacity of one million Optimus units annually, though no timeline was given. Production of the more affordable Model 3 and Model Y will continue at Fremont, while the discontinued Model S and X are now classified with low‑volume models. The shift signals Tesla’s move to diversify beyond electric vehicles into robotics and artificial‑intelligence‑driven hardware.
