Tesla denies rumors of withdrawing Full Self-Driving from China
Tesla China has denied online rumors suggesting the company is withdrawing its Full Self-Driving (FSD) operations from the country. The company clarified that its Shanghai data center remains fully operational and is actively recruiting for driver-assistance roles. In response to the spread of these claims, Tesla reported the rumors to police authorities.
The controversy stems from discrepancies on Tesla’s official websites. While some pages list China as a region where FSD software is available for use, China is notably absent from the list of markets where FSD Supervised subscriptions are currently offered. This has led to speculation regarding the timeline for a full commercial rollout.
Regulatory hurdles remain a significant factor in the deployment of FSD in China. The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has announced a mandatory national standard for automated driving systems, which is set to take effect on July 1, 2027. Tesla continues to work on localizing its vision-based driving system to comply with domestic data regulations and road environments.
