Tesla driver escapes after vehicle lands in Piscataway pond

A 71‑year‑old woman drove her new Tesla into New Market Pond in Piscataway, New Jersey, after the car broke through a wooden guardrail near the Washington Avenue Bridge. Police said the vehicle may have been traveling at a high speed.

The driver, who was not a strong swimmer, climbed out through the sunroof and was found sitting on the roof of the floating car. First responders escorted her to a hospital as a precaution; she was uninjured. The Tesla was later towed back to shore. Piscataway Director of Public Safety Keith L. Stith confirmed the incident but did not release the driver’s identity or the specific Tesla model.
