Tesla expands Robotaxi service hours amid reports of routing errors

Tesla has expanded the operating hours for its Robotaxi service, which now runs from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. The company stated that its unsupervised fleet has grown significantly and that upgraded intelligence in vehicle distribution and routing is intended to reduce passenger wait times.

The service currently operates in Austin, Texas, and certain Florida markets, utilizing Model Y vehicles while the company prepares to debut its purpose-built Cybercab. Recent regulatory developments include Nevada clearing Tesla to deploy up to 5,000 robotaxis in Clark County.

Despite these expansions, the service has faced criticism regarding technical reliability. Users have reported significant routing errors, including one instance where a 2.3-mile trip was estimated to take 66 minutes. In such cases, passengers have reported being left far from their intended destinations, prompting Tesla to issue refunds and state that they are working to improve the service.
