Tesla Model Y battery capacity falls to 86% after 140,000 km

A four‑year endurance test of a Tesla Model Y, driven mainly on highways and regularly charged at fast‑charging stations, recorded a 14% loss of usable battery capacity after 140,000 kilometres, leaving 86% of the original capacity. The vehicle’s maximum fast‑charging power also declined from about 257 kW to just over 200 kW, a reduction of roughly 13%. Despite the degradation, the car still achieved a real‑world range of 300–400 km, with an average consumption of 21.2 kWh per 100 km.

In a related highway‑range study of multiple electric models, the Tesla Model Y was highlighted again as one of the most energy‑efficient vehicles, ranking alongside the BMW iX3 for real‑world distance and delivering low consumption figures comparable to the most aerodynamic and lightweight competitors. The broader test underscored how battery size, vehicle weight, aerodynamics and charging habits affect both range and efficiency on long trips.
