Tesla Model Y L owners in China are reporting significant issues with the rear suspension of the six-seat SUV. Drivers claim the rear end of the vehicle appears to “collapse” or sag, particularly after long trips or when the vehicle is carrying a full load.

Reports indicate that the gap between the rear tire and the wheel arch can shrink dramatically. In some extreme cases, owners have noted that not even a single finger can fit in the space. One driver in Hebei province reported the issue after 9,000 kilometers of driving, while another in Shanghai observed a reduced gap after approximately 30,000 kilometers.

Beyond the visual impact, owners report that the sagging may affect wheel alignment, increase chassis sway, and cause premature tire wear. While Tesla has reportedly been replacing springs under warranty, some customers have expressed frustration over the durability of the repairs and the costs associated with worn tires. Some owners have adopted a “finger test” to monitor the gap, as Tesla service standards for spring replacement are based on specific millimeter measurements.
