Tesla opens Kyushu Superchargers for free after Kumamoto earthquake
On July 28, 2026, a magnitude‑7 (maximum seismic intensity 7) earthquake struck Kumamoto, Japan. In response, Tesla Japan announced that ten of its Supercharger stations across the Kyushu region will be available for free use from 00:01 JST on July 29 until 23:59 JST on August 4, 2026. Mobile‑battery rental service CHARGESPOT also began offering free rentals of its battery stands for up to 48 hours at 84 locations throughout Kumamoto Prefecture, with an additional 31 stands near Kumamoto Station and the Sakura‑machi area made available under the same terms. The company listed numerous participating retailers, such as convenience stores, supermarkets and car‑electronics shops.
Tesla noted that it has previously provided free Supercharger access after other disasters, including the Noto Peninsula earthquake in January 2024. Japan’s Supercharger network currently operates about 150 stations and 744 charging stalls nationwide.
