Tesla owners report on long-term battery life and charging reliability

Tesla owners in the United States are providing real-world insights into long-term electric vehicle (EV) ownership and charging reliability.

Will Prowse, a YouTuber from Nevada, shared a review of his 2021 Tesla Model X after 100,000 miles of driving over five years. Prowse noted that the vehicle required virtually no maintenance beyond wiper fluid. He reported a battery capacity degradation of approximately 20.65 percent, stating, “When I first bought the car, I could charge to 70 or 80 percent. Now, I have to charge to 100 percent to get that same capacity.”

In a separate test of charging infrastructure, a creator known as The Arkansas eTraveler completed a 700-mile trip from Georgia to Arkansas relying exclusively on the Tesla Supercharger network. The experiment aimed to test the feasibility of long-distance travel without a backup charging plan, while also attempting to utilize time-of-use rates to reduce costs.
