Tesla to host Cybercab robotaxi launch event in Austin

Tesla is hosting an exclusive launch event for its Cybercab robotaxi on September 3 at Gigafactory Texas in Austin. The Cybercab is a two-seat autonomous vehicle designed without a steering wheel or pedals, relying on a camera-only system powered by AI4 hardware rather than lidar or radar.

Production of the Cybercab reportedly began in early 2026, with at least 51 units already registered in Texas. Tesla has been testing the vehicles on public roads, expanding its robotaxi service geofence in both Austin and Dallas. While the company plans to eventually integrate the Cybercab into its commercial ride-hailing fleet, initial deployment may focus on transporting Tesla employees.

Elon Musk has suggested the vehicle could be priced at approximately $30,000. Despite the hype surrounding the launch, some Wall Street analysts, such as Morgan Stanley’s Andrew Percoco, remain cautious, maintaining an ‘Equal Weight’ rating with a $400 price target, noting that previous showcases have yielded mixed market results.
