Tesla announced that its 10 millionth vehicle – a black‑diamond Model Y – rolled off the assembly line at the Fremont factory in California, six years after the 1 millionth car left the same plant. The milestone makes the company halfway to the 20 million‑vehicle production target that underpins Elon Musk’s $1 trillion compensation package.

Tesla’s global installed annual production capacity exceeds 2.375 million units, spread across Gigafactory Shanghai, Fremont, Berlin and Texas. In the second quarter of 2026 the company produced 451,758 vehicles and delivered 480,126, indicating an output far below the theoretical capacity and reflecting demand‑constrained operations. Deliveries have fallen to 1.79 million in 2024 and 1.64 million in 2025 after a peak of 1.81 million in 2023.

The achievement also comes as Chinese rival BYD overtook Tesla as the world’s largest seller of battery‑electric vehicles in 2025. While Tesla remains the first pure‑EV maker to hit ten million units, analysts note that growth has stalled and the next wave of cheaper models and robotaxi/robot production has yet to materialise.
