The achievement also ties to CEO Elon Musk’s compensation package, which requires Tesla to reach 20 million vehicles, 10 million active Full‑Self‑Driving subscriptions, one million bots and one million robotaxis by 2035. Competition has intensified; Chinese rival BYD overtook Tesla as the world’s largest seller of pure battery EVs in 2025, delivering 2.26 million versus Tesla’s 1.64 million that year.
