Tesla reports increased vehicle deliveries despite falling profits

Tesla exceeded third-quarter 2026 delivery expectations by shipping 486,532 vehicles, surpassing the anticipated 461,000. However, the company faced significant pressure on its bottom line.

Net profit fell 29% year-over-year to $787 million, down from $1.37 billion in the previous year. Revenue remained relatively stagnant at $28.05 billion, a slight decrease compared to the same period last year. While automotive segment revenue dropped 3%, services and other activities saw a 33% increase to $4.61 billion.

The decline in profitability is attributed to pressure on automotive margins, battery supply challenges, and increased capital expenditures. Tesla has significantly ramped up investments in artificial intelligence and robotics, with capital expenditures more than doubling to $3.73 billion. The company is betting that these technological advancements will eventually offset the slowdown in its core automotive business.
