Tesla Roadster launch expected ‘very soon’ according to Chief Designer
Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen has indicated that the new generation Tesla Roadster will be released ‘very soon’. Speaking on the program ‘Jay Leno’s Garage’, Holzhausen provided this brief timeline but did not offer a specific production schedule or release date.
Originally unveiled in 2017, the second-generation Roadster has faced numerous delays. The vehicle was initially expected to launch in 2020, with subsequent targets shifting through 2022 and 2024. The car is designed to feature ambitious performance specifications, including a 0–60 mph acceleration in under two seconds, a top speed exceeding 400 km/h, and a range of approximately 1,000 kilometers.
A key component of the vehicle's development involves technology from SpaceX. The planned ‘SpaceX package’ is intended to utilize cold gas thrusters to enhance acceleration, braking, and cornering performance, though the integration of this technology has been cited as a factor in previous project delays.
