Tesla receives massive 2,500 electric truck order in U.S

A major coalition of cargo-owning shippers has placed an order for 2,500 Tesla Semi battery-electric Class 8 trucks, a deal that is expected to nearly double the current fleet of electric heavy-duty trucks on United States highways.

The order was organized through the Zero-Emission Truck Shipper-Carrier Alliance Leading Electrification (ZET SCALE), a joint program managed by Catalyst Mobility and the Smart Freight Centre. By aggregating freight demand, the alliance aims to build a market for electric trucks and reduce vehicle costs through large-scale volume orders. Participating founding members include companies such as Microsoft and PepsiCo.

While Tesla has faced production delays compared to competitors like Volvo and Freightliner, the new order coincides with the launch of a Tesla Semi factory in Nevada. The trucks will primarily operate across ten major U.S. logistics hubs and corridors, including Los Angeles, Seattle, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, and the New York/New Jersey area. ZET SCALE intends to expand the program to include at least 10,000 electric trucks in the future.
