Tesla ships first US-made LFP Megapacks as Spain's Ionly launches semi‑automated battery line

Tesla announced that it has begun shipping its first Megapack energy‑storage units built with lithium‑iron‑phosphate (LFP) cells manufactured in the United States. The cells are produced at Tesla’s facility in Sparks, Nevada, and are assembled into Megapacks at the Megafactory in Lathrop, California before delivery to utility and commercial customers. The rollout is presented as a milestone for domestic cell production and U.S. energy‑security goals.

In Spain, battery maker Ionly started serial production of residential LFP batteries at a new semi‑automated line in Valencia. The line, designed and built locally, raises the company’s capacity from 20 MWh to a potential 100 MWh and shifts production from hand‑built prototypes to higher‑volume manufacturing. Ionly’s 5 kWh XYZ home battery complies with the EU Battery Regulation and is largely assembled with European components, supporting a regional supply chain for home and commercial energy storage.

Both developments illustrate a broader shift toward localized LFP battery manufacturing to reduce reliance on overseas suppliers and to meet emerging regulatory and market demands for renewable‑energy storage.
