Tesla sued over Model X sudden acceleration in Washington
Tesla is facing a lawsuit from a family in Washington, United States, following an incident involving a 2023 Model X. The lawsuit alleges that the vehicle suddenly accelerated while stopped at a red light intersection in Kirkland on June 29, 2023.
Linh Nguyen, who was driving at the time with her 14-year-old daughter, reported that the vehicle surged into the intersection and struck a curb. Nguyen sustained various injuries to her neck, back, shoulders, knees, and left side, and reported experiencing dizziness and confusion. Her daughter also suffered injuries and significant emotional distress.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages for medical expenses and other losses. The lawsuit specifically targets Tesla’s driver assistance technology, alleging the system failed to keep the vehicle stationary, triggered acceleration without driver input, and made it difficult for the driver to regain control through steering or braking. While the lawsuit mentions a $15,000 payment for the technology, it remains unclear if the claim refers to Autopilot or the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) package.
