Tesla teases upcoming update on delayed Roadster

Tesla design chief Franz von Holzhausen has indicated that more information regarding the long-delayed second-generation Roadster will be released “very soon.” Originally unveiled in 2017, the production of the sports car has faced multiple postponements, with initial targets for 2020 having long passed.

Reports suggest a potential unveiling may take place at the SpaceX testing facility in McGregor, Texas. The vehicle is expected to feature specialized technology developed in collaboration with SpaceX, specifically a cold gas thruster system designed to provide extra power and allow the car to briefly hover or “fly.”

Due to the extreme nature of the propulsion system, which involves high-pressure gas, the demonstration is expected to involve remote-controlled operation to ensure safety. While the technology aims for unprecedented performance, such as sub-two-second 0–100 km/h acceleration, the integration of aerospace components means the limited-edition version likely will not meet standard civilian road safety regulations for mass production.
