Tesla to build dedicated Supercharger stations for Robotaxi fleet
Tesla is planning to construct dedicated Supercharger stations specifically for its Robotaxi fleet to address the limitations of the current public charging network in autonomous driving scenarios. Max de Zeeuw, head of Tesla's North American charging business, stated that while Robotaxis currently rely on human operators to plug them in at public stations during the night, this is a transitional phase.
The company aims to develop specialized stations that eliminate the need for manual intervention. While specific technical methods for automated charging were not detailed, Tesla's Cybercab was designed to support wireless charging, allowing vehicles to power up by driving over induction pads.
Future Robotaxi stations will be strategically located in areas with high travel demand and manageable land costs to maximize utilization. Until these dedicated facilities are operational, Tesla's autonomous Model Y and Cybercab vehicles will continue to use the existing public Supercharger network.
