Tesla to launch Cybercab robotaxi in Austin on September 3

Tesla is set to host a launch event for its Cybercab robotaxi on September 3 in Austin, Texas. The vehicle is a two-seater designed specifically for autonomous ride-hailing, featuring a minimalist interior without a steering wheel, accelerator, or brake pedals. It is expected to utilize wireless inductive charging rather than traditional plug-in cables.

According to EPA data, the Cybercab is equipped with a 53.3 kWh battery, providing an estimated range of up to 672 km (418 miles). The vehicle will use a front-wheel-drive configuration with a 219 hp electric motor. Design elements include scissor doors and a 20.5-inch central display.

Production of the Cybercab has already commenced at Gigafactory Texas, with some reports suggesting an annual production capacity of 125,000 units. Ahead of the official launch, Tesla has reportedly begun testing with employee trips on public roads in Austin. In Nevada, the Nevada Department of Transportation has approved Tesla to operate up to 5,000 autonomous vehicles in Clark County during its first 12 months.
