Tesla to launch Cybercab robotaxi in Austin on September 3
Tesla is preparing for the official launch of its Cybercab, a two-seat autonomous vehicle designed without a steering wheel or pedals. The company has scheduled an exclusive launch event for September 3 in Austin, Texas.
Recent sightings of the vehicle include gold-colored units staged in Dallas and production-spec models being tested on Austin streets. While Tesla currently operates a robotaxi service using modified Model Y vehicles, the company is reportedly slowing the integration of Model Ys into its fleet to prioritize the rapid scaling of the purpose-built Cybercab.
Technological advancements are supporting this transition, specifically the upcoming FSD V15 software, which Tesla describes as a major performance leap. In Nevada, regulators have cleared Tesla to deploy up to 5,000 robotaxis, with the company expecting to deploy approximately 2,500 within the first year.
