Tesla to unveil new Roadster in Texas following patent reveal
Tesla is preparing to officially unveil its new generation Roadster on October 1 at the SpaceX facility in McGregor, Texas. The company has reopened orders for the electric hypercar, requiring a $50,000 deposit to secure a place in line.
A recently published U.S. patent (US 2026/0285418 A1) reveals technical details regarding the vehicle's aerodynamics, specifically describing a deployable active rear wing assembly. The patent describes a two-piece wing that remains flush with the bodywork when not in use but can deploy in less than three seconds. In maximum downforce mode, the wing can generate up to 700 kg of aerodynamic pressure at top speeds. The system also includes safety features designed to retract the wing in the event of an impact.
The Roadster project has faced numerous delays since its initial concept reveal in 2017, with several postponements attributed to supply chain issues and production priorities. While the upcoming event promises a complete structural and aesthetic overhaul, market projections remain cautious regarding delivery timelines.
