Tesla to wind down Cybertruck production at Texas Gigafactory FAST-MOVING

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the company will begin winding down Cybertruck production at its Gigafactory in Texas around mid-2027. The strategic shift is intended to free up manufacturing capacity for the Cybercab, Tesla’s dedicated autonomous robotaxi vehicle.

While Musk did not explicitly state whether Cybertruck production will be discontinued entirely or relocated to another facility, lead engineer Wes Morrill suggested the vehicle serves as a technology development platform that lives on through the Cybercab. The Texas plant is currently the only known facility equipped to handle the truck’s specialized stainless-steel components.

The decision follows a period of underwhelming commercial performance for the Cybertruck. Despite high initial interest following its 2023 launch, sales have fallen short of original ambitions. Reports indicate that US sales for the first nine months of 2026 were approximately 11,586 units, a decline compared to previous periods. The vehicle also faced challenges including multiple recalls, quality-control issues, and repeated price adjustments.
