Tesouro Direto hits record R$ 15 billion in August investments

Brazil's Tesouro Direto program reached a historic milestone in August, recording R$ 15 billion in investments. This represents the highest monthly value in the program's history, driven by 1.32 million operations.

Despite the record investment volume, the month saw a negative net inflow of R$ 2.21 billion. This occurred because redemptions and bond maturities totaled R$ 17.22 billion, largely due to the maturity of Tesouro IPCA+ 2026 bonds (R$ 11.3 billion) and Tesouro IPCA+ with Semiannual Interest 2026 (R$ 1.5 billion).

Investors showed a strong preference for Selic-indexed bonds, which accounted for R$ 7 billion (46.9%) of total sales. Inflation-indexed bonds followed with R$ 5.5 billion (36.3%), while fixed-rate bonds totaled R$ 2.5 billion (16.7%). Most operations were small-scale, with 55.7% of applications being for amounts up to R$ 1,000.

The program's total stock ended August at R$ 272 billion, remaining stable compared to the previous month but marking a 43% increase compared to August of the previous year. The number of active investors reached approximately 3.83 million.
