Testament vocalist Chuck Billy debuts new short hairstyle

Chuck Billy, the 64-year-old vocalist for the metal band Testament, has debuted a new short hairstyle via social media. Billy, who has maintained long hair for most of his life except during a previous battle with cancer, stated that the change was intended to help him feel “fresh and new.”

Billy credited Alice in Chains member Jerry Cantrell for inspiring the decision, noting that seeing Cantrell’s recent haircut gave him the “strength and the energy and the nerve to cut it all off.”

In addition to his new look, Billy is set to release a memoir titled “Holding My Breath: The Two Testaments Of Chuck Billy” on November 10, 2026, through Permuted Press. Co-written with Dave Erickson, the book will cover the history of Bay Area thrash metal, the formation of Testament, and Billy’s personal experiences, including his cancer diagnosis and his Mexican-American and Indigenous heritage.
