Testamentary planning and solidarity wills see increased engagement

New trends and incentives are driving interest in testamentary planning. In Chihuahua, the “September, Month of the Testament” campaign offers up to 50% discounts on legal fees for those organizing their estate distribution. This initiative aims to prevent legal conflicts among heirs by promoting both holographic wills and public wills through notaries.

In Spain, solidarity-based wills—where individuals leave assets or percentages of their inheritance to non-profit organizations—have increased by 46% over the last five years. Data from the Haz Testamento Solidario platform shows a significant rise in inquiries, growing from 1,282 in 2021 to 8,766 in 2025. The platform notes that 66% of those making solidarity wills in 2025 were women.

These charitable legacies provide substantial support to humanitarian causes. For instance, the NGO Manos Unidas reported receiving over 10 million euros from legacies in 2025, accounting for approximately 20.9% of its total income, which helped fund projects across 52 countries.
