Tether CEO reports rising USDT adoption in developing economies
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino reports that the stablecoin USDT is seeing increased adoption in developing economies, specifically Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia, and Turkey. This trend is driven by local currency depreciation, high inflation, and limited access to traditional US dollar banking systems. As of March 2026, Tether claims its technology serves over 570 million users globally.
To hedge against economic instability, Tether has diversified its treasury into Bitcoin, gold, and agricultural land. The company holds approximately 98,933 BTC and roughly 148 tonnes of physical gold stored in Switzerland. An audit conducted by KPMG in mid-August confirmed that Tether's global reserves exceed its total liabilities by $6.8 billion.
