Tether receives unqualified KPMG audit for 2025 finances
Tether has received an unqualified audit opinion from KPMG US regarding its 2025 financial statements. This marks the first complete audit in the company’s history and includes a physical count of gold bars held in its reserves to verify precious metal holdings.
While the KPMG audit confirmed that assets exceeded liabilities by $6.814 billion as of December 31, 2025, recent data shows a decline in the reserve buffer. An attestation by BDO dated June 30, 2026, reported a reserve margin of $4.110 billion, representing a 39.7% decrease from the figure certified by KPMG six months prior.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that the audit is a decisive moment for the stablecoin industry, addressing long-standing skepticism regarding the company’s transparency and its ability to undergo rigorous examination by major accounting firms.
