Tetovo advances long-delayed street naming process

The process of naming streets in Tetovo is entering its final stages after years of delays. The Commission for Street Naming has approved 145 new names, bringing the total number of approved names to 222. More than 100 additional names must still be approved before the final list is submitted to the Municipal Council and subsequently to the Government for approval.

Albi Qamili, chairman of the naming commission, stated that the goal is to provide a legal conclusion to this long-standing issue without compromising the representation of any community. He expects the final list to be ready for the Council by September 20.

The process has faced political opposition. Arlind Murtezani of the Albanian Union criticized the selection process and indicated that his party will insist on including the name of former political prisoner Mehmet Gega in the upcoming list.
