Tetovo scrapyard fire causes explosions and thick smoke

A large fire broke out at a car scrapyard in Tetovo, consuming tires, batteries, and various vehicle components. The blaze caused explosions due to burning batteries and produced thick, heavy smoke that spread across the city.

Firefighters worked for approximately two hours to bring the situation under control. A primary concern was the proximity of a Makpetrol gas station; however, emergency crews and Makpetrol security personnel successfully established a protective perimeter, and the station remained secure. Local residents also assisted in protecting nearby properties.

Due to the dense smoke, authorities advised residents in the area to keep their windows closed until air quality improves. Municipal and environmental inspectors are currently on-site conducting analyses to determine the extent of environmental pollution. Legal measures may be taken against the owners if violations of environmental laws are confirmed.
