Tetovo-Prizren road construction begins toward cross-border tunnel

Construction has begun on the initial segments of the road intended to connect Tetovo in North Macedonia with Prizren in Kosovo. Local authorities in Tetovo are self-financing the first phase of the route, which includes the opening of kilometers of road above the village of Shipkovicë. This local phase is being developed with a budget of 250,000 euros to prepare the path toward a planned cross-border tunnel.

Following the completion of this local section, the project will move to the central government level to finalize the larger infrastructure plan. The Deputy Minister of Transport from North Macedonia and officials from Kosovo have confirmed that both governments are synchronizing steps regarding the cross-border portion of the project. Once the design phase for the tunnel is complete, the specific investment costs and the financing split between the two governments will be determined.
