Teva faces antitrust investigation in Turkey over generic drug competition

Turkey’s Competition Board has launched an investigation into the Israeli pharmaceutical group Teva, investigating allegations that the company violated local competition laws to hinder the entry of generic medicines into the market.

The probe examines whether Teva used strategic patent applications—specifically regarding manufacturing processes and dosages—to extend protection after primary patents expired. Authorities are also investigating whether the company provided misleading information to Turkish health officials regarding the safety and efficacy of competing products. The investigation covers Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, its European subsidiary Teva Europe, and its Turkish branch.

Teva has stated that the matter relates to the multiple sclerosis drug Copaxone, noting that similar issues were previously reviewed by European authorities. The company denies any wrongdoing and has pledged to cooperate with the investigation. Teva remains one of the few Israeli companies maintaining active operations in Turkey despite existing trade embargoes.
