Tevfik Gül trains certified search and rescue dogs in Kuşadası

Tevfik Gül, a professional breeder based in Kuşadası, has spent 11 years training certified search and rescue dogs to assist in natural disasters. Since 2015, Gül has produced several dogs with certifications from the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), including a Border Collie named Diff, Belgian Malinois named Bob and Alfa, and a Jagdterrier named Yak.

Gül and his dogs have participated in search and rescue operations following major earthquakes in Izmir, Kahramanmaraş, and Elazığ, as well as missions abroad. He emphasizes that despite technological advancements, no equipment can yet match a dog's ability to detect the carbon dioxide released by a person's breathing under rubble.

Currently, Gül is training a Belgian Malinois named Jiro at his farm in the Caferli neighborhood, providing 6 to 7 hours of daily training to prepare the dog for certification. He notes that successful search dogs must have a high play drive, as they often perceive their rescue tasks as a game.
