Tewel barn fire kills ten calves and damages residence

A severe barn fire in Tewel, located in the Heidekreis district of Lower Saxony, resulted in the deaths of ten calves on October 7, 2026. The fire broke out in a thatched-roof stable building on Dorfstraße at approximately 7:20 PM.

Emergency responders from the Neuenkirchen Volunteer Fire Department arrived to find the roof structure already fully engulfed in flames. While firefighters worked to protect an adjacent residential house, the flames partially damaged the home's roof, rendering the building uninhabitable.

Police estimate the total property damage at approximately 250,000 euros. The cause of the fire remains undetermined as investigations continue.
