Texas agencies use Flock Safety extensions to maintain surveillance cameras

Several Texas agencies, including the city of Dallas, have agreed to a 90-day payment pause from Flock Safety to keep AI-powered surveillance cameras operational following a state funding freeze by Governor Greg Abbott.

In addition to Dallas, the cities of Addison and New Braunfels, along with Johnson County, have received similar extensions. Local officials noted that without this intervention from Flock Safety, the devices would likely have been shut down.

The funding freeze, initiated by Governor Abbott in late August, has left local authorities uncertain about the long-term availability of state grants for the controversial technology. Some officials, such as Johnson County Commissioner Rick Bailey, suggested the freeze is politically motivated ahead of the November 3 election, expressing hope that funding might be reinstated after the vote.
