Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed faces SEC defensive scrutiny

SEC defensive coordinators have provided critical assessments of Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed following his performance in the previous season. According to an ESPN report featuring anonymous coaches, defensive coordinators prefer Reed to act as a traditional passer rather than utilizing his running ability. One coordinator noted that while Reed may not want to run, his mobility is the “scariest part” for defenses.

Reed recorded 3,169 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last season, while also contributing 493 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Despite the scrutiny regarding his status as a “true quarterback,” Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko expressed confidence in Reed’s development and his comfort within the team’s offensive scheme.

The Aggies enter the upcoming season ranked eighth in the preseason Coaches Poll, facing a challenging schedule that includes matchups against LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, and Tennessee.
