Texas and US states expand taxpayer funding for Christian schools

A new wave of state-level incentive programs is driving the expansion of classical Christian schools across the United States. In Texas, the state has begun rolling out $1 billion in public funding that eligible families can apply toward private education expenses.

The Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS) has formed a coalition with conservative organizations, including the Heritage Foundation and Turning Point Education, to leverage these taxpayer-funded scholarships. The group has set an ambitious goal to create or convert 5,000 new classical Christian schools over the next decade, aiming to serve 1.5 million students nationwide.

While proponents view this as a historic opportunity to educate Christian leaders using public funds, critics express concern that these programs will divert essential resources from public schools and create significant church-state conflicts. Currently, approximately half of all school-age children in the U.S. are eligible to apply for such state funding.
