Texas anglers capture 401 kg Atlantic bluefin tuna

In Galveston, Texas, an offshore fishing trip led by David Esslinger resulted in the capture of a massive Atlantic bluefin tuna. Departing from Pelican Rest Marina on the vessel Catillac, the group initially aimed to find blue marlin but instead encountered a fish of extraordinary strength.

The struggle lasted over five hours, with Esslinger describing the encounter as a slow and exhausting tug-of-war. The fish was eventually brought on board using hooks and ropes after appearing to be the size of a car. Upon returning to the marina, the tuna was weighed at 884 pounds (approximately 401 kg), measuring 115 inches in length with a girth of 80 inches.
