Texas announces $138 billion 10-year transportation investment plan
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Texas Transportation Commission have approved the 2027 Unified Transportation Program (UTP), a 10-year plan involving a projected $138 billion investment. The program allocates $95 billion for various projects across the state, supplemented by $43 billion dedicated to development and routine maintenance.
Governor Greg Abbott stated the investment aims to improve safety, reduce congestion, and strengthen the supply chain to support the state's growing population and economy. TxDOT officials noted the plan focuses on practical outcomes, including system preservation and reliable movement for people and goods.
In El Paso, the UTP includes funding for the US 62/180 (Montana Avenue) Phase 2 Project. This specific project has an estimated cost of $182.5 million and is expected to receive $100.49 million through the UTP. The project will extend expressway lanes and frontage roads from Tierra Este Road to FM 659 (Zaragoza Road) to improve mobility and safety in the corridor.
