Texas athletics face challenges in basketball and football

The Texas Longhorns men's basketball team suffered an 87-74 exhibition loss to No. 13 St. John’s at Madison Square Garden. Despite a strong second-half performance where they outscored St. John’s by five points, Texas struggled early, trailing by 18 points at halftime. Isaiah Johnson led Texas with 18 points, while Matas Vokietaitis added 14. St. John’s was led by Keyshawn Hall with 24 points and Tounde Yessofou with 23 points.

In college football, the Texas Longhorns are facing critical pressure following consecutive losses to Oklahoma and Florida. The team is preparing to host No. 7 Ole Miss. A loss to the Rebels would significantly impact the Longhorns' College Football Playoff aspirations and raise questions regarding the program's ability to meet championship expectations in the SEC.
