Texas athletics report mixed results in volleyball and football
The University of Texas athletic programs experienced contrasting outcomes in recent competitions. The No. 14 ranked Texas volleyball team secured a 3-0 victory over unranked South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. The Longhorns dominated the match with a 25-12 first set and improved their discipline by limiting service errors. Key contributors included setters Rella Binney and Genevieve Harris, who combined for 38 assists, and middle blocker Nya Bunton, who provided critical kills and blocks in the final set.
In football, the Texas Longhorns earned a 34-27 win against No. 7 Ole Miss, bringing their record to 5-2. Despite the momentum-building victory, the team faced significant disciplinary challenges, committing a season-high 14 penalties for 134 yards. Head coach Steve Sarkisian noted that while the team overcame these setbacks, the level of penalties is a dangerous trend that must be addressed.
