Texas Bar Assault Targets Woman Amid ‘Free Karmelo’ Outcry

Sammie Lee says she was attacked after leaving Whiskey J’s bar in Longview, Texas, by a group of female supporters of Karmelo Anthony. The women shouted “Free Karmelo” and claimed they were looking for “the smallest white girl they could find.” Lee sustained a black eye, facial lacerations and bleeding from the back of her head.

Police arrested Ciarrianne Fuller, who faces a charge of assault causing bodily injury and has been released on a $20,000 bond. Karmelo Anthony, 19, was sentenced to 35 years for the 2024 murder of Austin Metcalf at a high‑school track meet and has just hired a new six‑lawyer team ahead of an anticipated appeal.
