Texas barbecue expands with growing halal options
Halal-certified barbecue establishments are expanding across Texas, as Muslim pitmasters introduce Islamic dietary guidelines to the state’s traditional culinary scene.
Fort Worth-based Goldee’s BBQ, which has received recognition from Texas Monthly and a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, serves classic items alongside halal brisket, turkey, and lamb. The restaurant is part of a growing trend where at least a dozen barbecue spots in the state now offer halal meat options.
Other notable establishments include Levant Mediterranean BBQ, which operates in Houston and Frisco, and Yearby’s Barbecue & Waterice, a forthcoming location in Plano run by a Black Muslim couple. These businesses provide diverse options for the state’s growing Muslim community.
